Gua Shua, also known as "scraping", is a technique of Chinese medicine that has been used for over 2,000 years. "Gua" means to rub and "Sha" refers to blood stagnation. In scraping, the area being treated is lubricated with oil and then scraped with downward stroke using a shoe-horn-like device. This stimulation creates a red rash-like area of skin, promoting blood circulaton and relieving toxin build up, strengthening the body. Discoloration of the skin will typically fade within a week.
Scraping is commonly done during Solar treatments along meridians in the arms.
